CASE STUDY

PUSHING BOUNDARIES ON THE MAIN STAGE

The crown jewel of the Austin music scene, ACL Fest draws over 130 artists & nearly half a million fans to the heart of the city for two weekends of musical bliss. For back-to-back years, I directed the award-winning creative content team responsible for bringing the vibrancy of the ACL brand to life through digital and social content. It was my job to develop the overarching content strategy, oversee a 15 person creative production team, drive alignment between key departments & stakeholders, direct individual video projects, and assemble the right mosaic of content to tell ACL’s brand story. In 2019 my team developed, produced and delivered over 30 videos during the festival, including brand films, recaps, highlight reels, short docs, takeaway concerts, interviews, comedy bits, and viral moments. On top of that, we supported the social team with a steady stream of gifs, GFX treatments, timelapses and treated photos in order to keep the feeds churning. We set out to create an ecosystem of elevated work that pushed the boundaries of festival storytelling, and our efforts were recognized with the Texas Star Award for Best Event Filmmaking.

There’s nothing quite like producing content at a major music festival.

At ACL, the sprawling festival grounds, throngs of fans, and quick turnarounds all conspire to spawn a myriad of logistical challenges. For two straight weekends, our team practically lived out of the production trucks, criss-crossing Zilker park in our trusty golf carts and shipping edits on an almost hourly basis. Check out the BTS video to what the work looks like!

“From soup to nuts, they’re an unparalleled production and creative force, creating beautiful imagery and powerful content. But the reason I continue to work with them is for the collaborative experience; you always get the sense that they care about your project as much as you do and, in most cases, they will make an idea 10 times more realized through the process. They listen, they execute masterfully, and they are an absolute pleasure to work with.”

— -Daniel Gibbs Visual Media Director, C3 Presents

It was such a fun challenge producing this one-shot take-away performance with Austin band Ley Line on the banks of Barton Creek. This series placed the artists in the fabric of the Austin community, and brought the live experience to fans everywhere.
